Dr. Derek was born and raised in Harrisonville, MO. He played many sports while growing up and throughout high school where he earned a baseball scholarship to Northwest Missouri State University. While there, Dr. Derek earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology/Psychology. He then attended Cleveland Chiropractic College where he earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic in December 2018.
Prior to Peculiar Family Chiropractic and Sports Medicine, Dr. Derek has worked at offices in Springfield, MO and Kansas City, MO where he has treated all kinds of patient populations. When he is not working Dr. Derek enjoys sports, grilling, and taking his dog to the dog park.
Dr. Derek likes to treat all kinds of patients especially athletes. Dr. Derek received his CCSP in 2022, and is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician through the ACBSP. He utilizes many different adjusting techniques while combining soft tissue therapy and corrective exercises to help his patients get their best results.
Dr. Thayer Banwart was born and raised in Kansas where he graduated from Fort Scott Christian Heights in 2007 before attending the local community college and then Pittsburg State University. He then transferred to Chesterfield Missouri to attend Logan College of Chiropractic where he received his Bachelors in Human Biology as well as his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2015. While attending Logan, Dr. Thayer was involved in multiple organizations and clubs including Logan Sports Council and volunteered at several special needs clinics in downtown Saint Louis.
Following graduation, Dr. Thayer moved to the Kansas City area where he opened his own practice Peculiar Family Chiropractic & Sports Medicine. Dr. Thayer currently owns and operates multiple clinics in the Kansas City area and is also the team chiropractor for Christ Preparatory Academy’s football team.
Dr. Thayer specializes in several adjusting techniques and utilizes state of the art Class IV Laser treatments into many of his treatment plans. He also has advanced training in soft tissue techniques as well as extremity adjusting. His passion is working with athletes and special needs patients. He enjoys spending time with friends and family as well as weightlifting, running, hiking, football, basketball, golf, cooking, woodworking, and guitar.
